If you are reported sick, you may risk:

  • being left with bad conscience due to the financial burden, thereby caused for your employer;
  • being dismissed due to your employer’s extra expenses for having to employ a substitute or for paying overtime to other employees.


However, the situation does not necessarily have to be like that.


If your sick note is due to an accident, your employer may in many cases demand that the responsible tortfeasor compensates for the extra expenses incurred in connection with your absence due to sickness.

Typically, such compensation will be paid by the insurance company.
